Evergreen Historic District Water Rights

Did you know that the land that you own in the Evergreen Historic District comes with water rights? The water we own comes in the form of flood irrigation that SRP is responsible to deliver to the neighborhood at scheduled run times. SRP provides a sub-scheduling tool that allows each home owner to claim their water at a designated time slot during each run. We do not pay for this water that we own. However, maintenance of the delivery system does have costs that we are responsible for.

Every home owner pays SRP a small annual fee that SRP uses to cover the cost to maintain the system they use to deliver water to our neighborhood. Then, we as a neighborhood are responsible alone for maintaining the irrigation system within our neighborhood. At any time a vital piece of our aging system could fail. When this happens, water runs to the neighborhood are discontinued until the system is repaired. Depending on what part of the system fails, repair costs could reach into the many thousands of dollars. If the repairs are not made then we lose our access to flood irrigation, and this can become permanent. However, an IWDD provides enhanced protection to ensure our water deliveries continue.

An IWDD organizes procedure and authority amongst neighbors so that needed repairs are quickly made, and a Special Tax District ensures that the IWDD remains solvent. Every home owner chips in so the cost per household is very small and 100% of the funds are dedicated to the neighborhood to keep our flood irrigation system functioning. We have the very unique luxury of being surrounded by mature trees and plant life, providing shade and lower temperatures, food, beauty, and habitat to unique birds and other animals. Thanks to an IWDD we can rest assured that our flood irrigation system will continue to serve us in the future.
